Why We Call Ourselves ANNEX
Every community needs spaces within spaces. Places where people can gather around a shared interest, explore new ideas, and build deeper connections.
ANNEX grew from an established and thriving choral community, creating room for a different kind of musical experience: smaller in size, perhaps, but rich in collaborations, creativity, and artistic exploration.
The name reminds us that growth does not always mean starting something new. Sometimes it means creating an extension of something already valuable and allowing it to evolve in its own direction.
Director's Bio

Sue Skinner
Founder & Director, ANNEX
Sue Skinner is the Founder and Director of ANNEX, a new a cappella choir based in Kelowna, British Columbia.
Sue brings a rich musical background to ANNEX. She enjoyed a career as an opera singer, performing across Canada, the United States, and Europe. During her Master’s studies, she also pursued choral conducting - an area of music she discovered she loved and has continued to embrace.
Throughout her conducting career, Sue’s choirs have had the opportunity to perform in prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall.
For Sue, ANNEX is more than a choir - it is an opportunity to create beautiful music through the power of the human voice, build community, and share the joy of singing together. She is excited to embark on this new a cappella adventure with singers and audiences in the Okanagan and beyond.
She is now thrilled to bring her experience, enthusiasm, and love of vocal music to this exciting new chapter with ANNEX.
For us, ANNEX is that space. A place to sing, to learn, to take musical risks, and to build something meaningful together.
